Markus Bechmann appointed ESMIG representative at ETIP SNET Governing Board

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Markus Bechmann, Global VP Innovation & New Business Models, Industry Business Unit Utilities, at SAP, as ESMIG’s Governing Board representative at ETIP SNET.

Markus combines technical expertise with business acumen. During his 6 years as a consultant and project manager at PwC, he managed large SAP implementations at international companies. Following this, he moved to management consulting with Management Engineers and worked 5 years with global utilities companies to help them succeed in the new energy markets.

After joining SAP in 2006, he combined his technical and business skills to build up the SAP Business Transformation Service team for the utilities industry. Since 2012, he has been in a global leadership role in the SAP Industry Business Unit for Utilities.

As Global VP for Innovation and New Business Models, he is currently advising international utilities companies how to make use of intelligent technologies to be successful in both traditional and innovative business models.

Following his appointment, Markus stated, “ESMIG was created to advance the uptake of smart meters in Europe and to maximize benefits for consumers, the grid and society. It is my great pleasure to represent this mission in the Governing Board of ETIP SNET. With smart grids, storage technologies, flexible generation, digitization, and business innovation, the working groups of ETIP SNET are exactly addressing the key building blocks to fulfil ESMIG’s mission.”

ETIP SNET, established by the European Commission, is the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Networks for Energy Transition. Established to bring together a multitude of stakeholders in the energy sector, ESMIG has been a member for a number of years and we look forward to continuing our role in addressing challenges raised by the transformation of the energy system.
